South Coast Glaciers and Waterfalls
Six days
Day 1, Arrival to Iceland
Welcome to Iceland. We will pick you up
from the airport and drive you to your downtown Reykjavík hotel. Spend the day
at leisure with recommendations from your guide.
Day 2, Thingvellir, Geysir, Gullfoss
and Snowmobiles
We start off with an early hotel
pick-up in the morning and drive over to UNESCO designated cultural site,
Thingvellir National Park, a rift valley where the Eurasian and North American
tectonic plates meet and Icelands parliament was founded in 930 by the Viking
settlers. We continue to the Geysir hot springs, the area hosts an impressive
collection of bubbling mud pools, colorful clear hot-water springs and the
erupting Strokkur hotspring, spewing boiling water tens of meters into the air
every 10 minutes or so. On to great Gullfoss waterfall. The 3-tiered waterfall
is one of the most powerful in Europe. After lunch at Gullfoss we continue with
our 4×4 superjeep to Langjökull, Iceland’s second largest glacier where we go
for a thrilling snowmobile tour. Overnight in the countryside.

Day 3, South Coast Waterfalls and Black
Sand Beaches
Today we explore the dramatic scenery
of the southern lowlands. We’ll see waterfalls and majestic sea-cliffs, home to
the charismatic puffin. We explore the unique black sand beaches and see great
views of glaciers and volcanoes. We’ll visit the unique waterfall of
Seljalandsfoss where you can walk behind the cascading water among the magical
ferns and the powerful Skógafoss waterfall framed by the infamous volcano of
Eyjafjallajökull. Dinner and overnight in the area.
Day 4, Skaftafell and Jökulsárlón
Glacier Lagoon
We continue along to the east through
the vast sandy alluvial south where braided glacial rivers meander through the
landscape. We stop at Skaftafell nature reserve, an oasis of green in the vast
black flood plains. In Skaftafell we have can hike into the lush birch forest
to see Svartifoss cascade with its beautiful basalt formations. After lunch we
continue eastward beneath the highest peak of Iceland, Hvannadalshnúkur at
2110m, and along to the breathtaking Jökulsárlón glacier lagoon where the
glacier Breiðamerkurjökull slides into a vast lagoon filled with floating
icebergs. Dinner and overnight in the area.

Day 5, Thorsmörk
Today we turn back west towards the
capital and along the way we visit the inland wilderness area of Thorsmörk.
Here we see some of the most dramatic scenery Iceland has to offer such as the
fissure cut glacier of Gígjökull that grinds down over black basalt rock. In
the heart of the area we can explore birch- and angelica-filled gullies and
endless trickling streams of water. Explore the possibilities with your guide
according to your wishes and weather conditions. We end the day in Reykjavík
with dinner at on of the best restaurants in town suggested by your guide.
Overnight in Reykjavík.
Day 6, Departure
On this, the last day of your visit we
pick you up from your hotel three hours before your flight departure and bring
you to Keflavík International Airport in time for your check-in.
