Day 4, The far West of Hesteyri
We take the small ferry boat to the abandoned village at Hesteyri. After WW2 the farms were abandoned and has become a nature reserve only accessible by boat. We take a walk to the old village area of Ísafjörður to find a restaurant in one of the oldest houses in Iceland.
Day 5, Ísafjörður and Drangsnes.
Driving in through the many inlet fjords of the Ísafjarðardjúp gives more beautiful views. We arrive at our tiny fishing village Drangsnes in the afternoon for the boat trip to Grimsey island where thousands of puffins breed and fly continuously in from the surrounding waters with small fish in the beak to feed the puffin chicks. Overnight in Drangsnes hotel.
Day 6, From Drangsnes back to Reykjavík.
We leave our friends in Drangsnes for the road to the south. On the way there are plenty of photo opportunities and we are back in volcanic areas at the Grábrók crater and Glanni waterfall in the Norðurárdalur, coming to the Borgarfjörður area. Overnight in the capital Reykjavík.
